15 novembre Current thoughtsWhy do you think the republicans rolled over so easy this election? If they possibly used voting machines to skew other elections, why wouldn't they have done it again? This has really been bugging me for a while now. My guess: They know that it won't matter in the near future. The biggest secret right now is the waffling of the economy. It is bad. Real bad.
I was hoping that things would begin to get better here after the elections, but I am starting to think otherwise. I think that the elections don't matter because the damage is done. It is a matter of time before we will see the results of the assault on our economy over the last few years. The path has been set and there is no way to derail it. Everything from the economy to war to the newest "terror" legislation will begin to unfold soon. Yes, I know I sound bleak, but what choice do I have. When you really look at what the Bush admin. has managed to do over the past six years, you start to realize that this is NOT going to be fixed overnight. We are headed down a certain path (mapped out by the neocons) and we have no breaks.
What the dems can't do:
1. They cannot fix the economy in enough time to keep us from a major slump or depression.
2. They cannot repeal any of the unconstitutional legislation because they do not have enough votes, and even if they did, it would be derailed by Bush.
3. They cannot even pass new legislation that changes parts of the old legislation because Bush would veto it, and they do not have enough votes to overrule a veto.
Really, the only pull they have at the moment is with the Iraq war, and that is still largely up to the 'decider'.
My predictions:
I foresee...
1. An economic crisis. I am not sure how bad it will be, but we have created an economic environment that is susceptible to a catastrophy.
2. An attack on Iran by Israel. This may not be any time soon. It may even be after we withdrawl our troops from Iraq, but I see it as a very real possibility. And, of course, we will have to run to their aid.
3. The US still not resolving the Israeli/Palestine problem. Why would they, we need this friction to keep the neverending war on terrorism going.
4. A combination of some kind of war and economic strife to lead to an even broader implementation of some of the 'terror' legislation that has passed. (Military Commission Act)
5. The rise of a new super-power going un-checked while we deplete our treasury and resources. That super-power will use our money that we have pumped into their economy to build a military that, for the first time, can rival ours, while our economy and military dwindles to nothing.
6. Rampant privatization as a result of all of the above.
No, it is not a pretty picture that I have painted above. If we are lucky only a few of them will come to pass. These are just some thoughts that have been floating around my head. Nothing more.
Fred, I will begin to post on your site again soon. I have been using this blog as a way to think out loud recently and didn't really think you would want your blog used for my random thoughts.
